{"id":299,"date":"2025-04-14T11:48:34","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T09:48:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/excello-site.local\/?p=299"},"modified":"2025-09-16T11:19:00","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T09:19:00","slug":"excello-est-membre-dagir-pour-leducation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/excellolab.org\/en\/excello-est-membre-dagir-pour-leducation\/","title":{"rendered":"Excello is part of \u201cAgir pour l\u2019\u00c9ducation,\u201d an initiative launched by several Coll\u00e8ge de France professors."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This article is based on the presentation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.college-de-france.fr\/fr\/agir-pour-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cAgir pour l\u2019\u00c9ducation\u201d by the Coll\u00e8ge de France website.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Launched in 2017, the Excello program aims to develop, test, and distribute innovative teaching tools in schools. These tools foster regular reading and math practice tailored to students\u2019 needs, building on the work of Stanislas Dehaene, professor of Experimental Cognitive Psychology. His research explores the brain mechanisms behind core cognitive functions (consciousness, reasoning, language, reading, and math) and how children learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Excello\u2019s main focus is creating Kalulu, a reading method grounded in decoding grapheme\u2013phoneme combinations. Kalulu includes booklets, games, and a mobile\/tablet app, all designed to build vocabulary as well. Since 2022, the method has been tested in 100 classrooms in the Versailles district. Starting in the 2024 school year, teachers nationwide can opt to use Kalulu. International adaptations are underway, and further research projects\u2014especially on how students learn and grasp math\u2014are also in progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Since 2022, Excello has been part of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.college-de-france.fr\/fr\/agir-pour-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Agir pour l\u2019\u00e9ducation<\/a>\u201d an initiative born from the determination of Coll\u00e8ge de France professors to address the crisis in the French education system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born in 2022 from the desire of Coll\u00e8ge de France professors to act in response to the crisis situation facing the French education system, the initiative <em>Agir pour l\u2019\u00e9ducation\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Un enjeu scientifique pour la soci\u00e9t\u00e9<\/em> a pour ambition\u00a0de placer la recherche scientifique au service de l\u2019\u00e9cole et de continuer \u00e0 contribuer \u00e0 faire vivre la promesse r\u00e9publicaine de l\u2019\u00e9ducation pour tous. Leur ambition : croiser les savoirs et faire avancer la recherche pour mieux comprendre les difficult\u00e9s auxquelles sont confront\u00e9s les \u00e9l\u00e8ves, concevoir des outils p\u00e9dagogiques scientifiquement \u00e9prouv\u00e9s, sensibiliser aux sciences et former des citoyens \u00e9clair\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">For roughly 30 years, France has experienced a worrying decline in student performance, particularly in reading and math, coupled with growing social inequalities in academic success and gaps in social-emotional skills. In a fast-changing, tech-driven 21st century, effective lifelong learning has never been more important for inspiring youth and equipping them with the tools to understand and act in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Through \u201cAgir pour l\u2019\u00c9ducation,\u201d the Coll\u00e8ge de France aims to study, advise, and take action in all fields of its professors\u2019 expertise. The initiative has two parts: a public conference series on learning and teaching methods, and research projects and educational actions led by Coll\u00e8ge de France professors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Professor Philippe Aghion, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.college-de-france.fr\/fr\/chaire\/philippe-aghion-economie-des-institutions-de-innovation-et-de-la-croissance-chaire-statutaire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chair of the Economics of Institutions of Innovation and Growth<\/a>, and his initiative with \"<a href=\"https:\/\/www.college-de-france.fr\/fr\/campus-de-innovation-pour-les-lycees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Innovation Campus for High Schools<\/a>\";<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Professor Stanislas Dehaene, chair of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.college-de-france.fr\/fr\/chaire\/stanislas-dehaene-psychologie-cognitive-experimentale-chaire-statutaire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Experimental Cognitive Psychology<\/a>, and his action \"<a href=\"https:\/\/www.college-de-france.fr\/fr\/actualites\/programme-excello-recherche-et-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Excello<\/a>\", whose <a href=\"https:\/\/moncerveaualecole.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">laboratory<\/a> develops educational tools for reading and mathematics based on cognitive sciences;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Professors Jean-Luc Fournet, chair of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.college-de-france.fr\/fr\/chaire\/jean-luc-fournet-culture-ecrite-de-antiquite-tardive-et-papyrologie-byzantine-chaire-statutaire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Written Culture of Late Antiquity and Byzantine Papyrology<\/a>, and William Marx, chair of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.college-de-france.fr\/fr\/chaire\/william-marx-litteratures-comparees-chaire-statutaire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Comparative Literature<\/a>, who wish to promote the practice of rhetoric and theater to help students defend a point of view, develop a better knowledge of themselves and others;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Professor St\u00e9phane Mallat (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.college-de-france.fr\/fr\/chaire\/stephane-mallat-sciences-des-donnees-chaire-statutaire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Data Science<\/a>), who leads \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.college-de-france.fr\/fr\/actualites\/mathadata\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MathAData<\/a>\u201d for high school math teaching\u2014featuring computer-based data challenges\u2014and also takes part in the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.college-de-france.fr\/fr\/actualites\/programme-mathc2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MathC2+<\/a>\u201d program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Professor Pierre-Michel Menger, chair <a href=\"https:\/\/www.college-de-france.fr\/fr\/chaire\/pierre-michel-menger-sociologie-du-travail-createur-chaire-statutaire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sociology of Creative Work<\/a>, whose program \"<a href=\"https:\/\/www.college-de-france.fr\/fr\/actualites\/diagnostiquer-pour-agir\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Diagnostiquer pour agir<\/a>\" analyzes the academic and university trajectories of French students in mathematical sciences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Professor Esther Duflo, chair of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.college-de-france.fr\/fr\/chaire\/esther-duflo-pauvrete-et-politiques-publiques-chaire-statutaire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Poverty and Public Policy<\/a>, specialist in field experiments in the educational field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI see no reason for our national education system to be stuck in underperformance. But time is short, and everyone\u2014researchers, parents, teachers\u2014must join forces to combine rigor, compassion, and effective methods so our schools can get back on the path to success,\u201d says Stanislas Dehaene, holder of the Experimental Cognitive Psychology Chair and lead sponsor of \u201cAgir pour l\u2019\u00c9ducation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative is backed by the Coll\u00e8ge de France Foundation and its patrons.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Le programme Excello, lanc\u00e9 en 2017 par le Pr.
